Cognitive Surplus

The following article has provoked many ideas about the free (or lack of) time I have.

My free time is usually spontaneously managed and I occasionally plan my days. I've noticed that free time is essential to everyone. Without that time to unwind, relax, and reflect, I think society would crumble. Madness would ensue and people would possibly revolt. There is a balance in nature. Some of great freedom, some of great restraint. Sometimes, boundaries must be set up to visualize an asset. How does it feel to become more expressive and more open? The body and mind is free to explore and expand its viewpoint. Sometimes spiritual inspirations occur and unique innovations emerge. Soon enough, there will be no limits to individual expression. However, that would be unrealistic. We are not Amsterdam. Our expressions are limited by our social constraints and societal values.

Accident

Earlier today I had two interviews. After my second interview, my employer said I needed my passport to verify citizenship. While heading back, I was driving downhill towards my place and there was a street that I desperately needed to turn left on to get back home or else I would have to turn around after a couple streets because of the huge intersection near the freeway. Unknowingly, the entire left lane was blocked by a few cones because of tree cutters/pruners. Presently, it was a green light. At that moment it did not hit me that there was no conceivable room for a left turn. I thought the tree cutters left at least a small space for people to make a left. They should have at least put a no left turn sign there or before the intersection as a precaution. The left arrow light was a little hard to see and the opposing traffic seemed to be clear at the time. Apparently the red arrow light was red. My whole mentality at the time was slow down to a stop in order to execute a left turn later. However, I couldn't just stop at a green to wait for the green arrow (the vehicles behind me might have hit me for slowing down to a stop at a green), so I decided to make a left around the tree cutters and into the street but it was green for the opposing traffic apparently, so I ended up hitting the rear end of the other car with the left front bumper of my van. It was a slight impact for me. Then I pulled over to check on the other guy to see if he was alright and he was thankfully. No major injuries, we were both okay. We exchanged numbers and called the police. I am just glad no body was seriously injured. What's surprising is that after the collision the tree cutters immediately left a few minutes after. It seemed suspicious.

On a lighter note, I met two nice people on my bus rides back.
The bus driver let me ride for free because my college card was apparently expired. What a cool guy.
The other guy had a hearing impairment but he helped me find my destination back home.
Life can surprise you sometimes.

The Joy of Riding

Riding is a great experience and feeling. It is a feeling of great excitement and exhilaration. Sometimes my mind races as I ponder upon an upcoming curve or street light. The views are also amazing. Watching beautiful scenery such as Back Bay, the Marsh, the beach, the sunset. Nature is amazing. Being worry-free and relaxed is great. If only the US would join "the ride"...
